Sailing and Powerboat Courses
Pico Challenge Training Day, Course Code: S108
- This is a training day for people looking to attend the Pico Challenge weekend.
- The training day is being held at Chasewater.
- The pre-requisites are that you must be aged between 14 and 20, and have passed the young sailors stage 2 course.
- The date for the training day is Saturday 12th April and must be attebded.
- There are a amximum of 14 places available and will be given on a first come first served basis.
- The cost for the training day is £15.
Pico Challenge Weekend, Course Code: S208
- This is a national youth competition hosted by a school in Colwyn Bay. The weekend involves race training followed by a series of fun races on the sea competing for trophies.
- This is a residential weekend which includes a barbeque and swimming / football and rugby on the saturday night.
- The pre-requisites for this are that you must be a scout aged between 14 and 18 and have passed the young sailors stage 2 course, and attend the training weekend.
- The date for this weekend is Friday 16th May to Sunday 18th May.
- There are a maximum of 14 places are will be allocated on a first come basis.
- The cost for this weekend including food, accomodation and transport is £45.
RYA Basic Skills Course.(Old Level 2), Course Code: S308.
- This is an RYA level 1&2 course to be held at Chasewater. The course is aimed at beginners with no experience and teaches you how to launch, rig, sail and carry out basic manoeuvres.
- Successful candidates will also be able to apply for a scout water authorisation permit.
- There are no pre-requisites for this course as it is aimed at beginners aimed 16 or above.
- The dates for the course are Sat 31st May, Sun 1st June, Sat 14th June and Sun 15th June. All dates must be attended, but should the weather conditions make a date impossible then an extra day may be required.
- There are 8 places available and will be given on a first come basis.
- The cost for this course is £75 for scouts and £95 for non scouts.
RYA Young Sailors Start Sailing Course, Course Code: S408
- This is an RYA young sailors course working towards stage 2 to be held at Chase Water.
- The only pre-requisites for this course are that you must be aged between 10 and 16. As the course is aimed at beginners no sailing experience is required.
- The dates for the course are Sat 31st May and Sun 1st June.
- There are 20 places available and will be given on a first come basis.
- The cost for the course is £35 for scouts and £45 for non scouts.
RYA Young Sailors Start Sailing Course., Course Code: S508
- This is an RYA young sailors course working towards stage 2 to be held at Chase Water.
- The only pre-requisites for this course are that you must be aged between 10 and 16. As the course is aimed at beginners no sailing experience is required.
- The dates for the course are Sat 14th and Sun 15th June.
- There are 20 places available and will be given on a first come basis.
RYA Safety Boat Course, Course Code: PB208
- This is an RYA Powerboat safety boat course to be held at Chasewater.
- This course enables you to provide safety cover for scouts and sailing clubs.
- The pre-requisites for this course are that you must be aged 16 or over, and have passed the powerboat level 2 course and have a minimum of 1 seasons experience of driving powerboats.
- The date for the course is Sat 27th & Sun 28th Sept.
- There are 10 places available and will be given on a first come basis.
- The cost of the course is £50 for scouts and £65 for non scouts.
RYA Spinnaker Course, Course Code: S1008
- This is an RYA spinnaker course to be held at Chasewater.
- This course enables you to learn how to rig, fly, gybe and recover spinnakers.
- The pre-requisites for this course are that you must be aged 16 or over, and have passed the Basic skills (old level 2) course or the young sailors stage 3 course.
- The dates for the course are Sat 27th and Sun 28th Sept.
- There are 8 places available and will be given on a first come basis.
- The cost for the course is £50 for scouts and £65 for non scouts.
RYA Seamanship Skills., Course Code: S1008
- This is an RYA seamanship skills course to be held at Chasewater.
- This course is aimed at taking your current sailing to a higher standard.
- The course pre-requisites for this are that you must be aged 16 or over, and have passed the basic skills course or young sailors stage 3 course.
- The dates for this course are Sat 11th and Sun 12th October.
- There are 8 places available at £35 for scouts and £45 for non scout.
RYA Seamanship Skills, Course Code: S1008
- This is an RYA seamanship skills course to be held at Chasewater.
- This course is aimed at taking your current sailing to a higher standard.
- The course pre-requisites for this are that you must be aged 16 or over, and have passed the basic skills course or young sailors stage 3 course.
- The dates for this course are Sat 11th and Sun 12th October.
- There are 8 places available at £35 for scouts and £45 for non scout.
Booking Details
For all the above courses the booking process is as follows.
- Please E-mail Jane Kent on Jane.kent2@btinternet.com with details of the course and number of places you require.
- Please include in your E-mail your name, address, age and scout group details if any.
- Jane will then send you the relevant information and booking form for your course and when you return this with a non returnable deposit your place will be reserved if places are still available.
- Places will only be kept open for 2 weeks after enquiry and if no deposit is received within the 2 weeks then the places will go to others.
