Background for Parents

Explorer abseiling
Scouting welcomes people of all races into it's membership and its leadership and while the programme is firmly based on the Christian ethic, people of all religeous backgrounds and of none are welcome to join. The training for Leaders and members is based on that Christian ethic and it is the caring aspect of that ethic that ensure the safety and friendship that all ages - from Beavers to Network and Fellowship find so valuable. This means that whether you are Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Shinto or nothing, we have an open door.

We expect to provide a safe and secure environment in which all our young people can find true fun and friendship. All our leaders have to be vetted through the Criminal Records Beaureau, and a constant review of all staff is maintained. We continue to have Active Child Protection practices through constant leader training and all activity leaders are required to undergo specific activity training to enable them to be effective and professional in a voluntary organisation.

Contact the main County Office to find your nearest Group and we are sure that your young boy or girl will enjoy the fun and friendship that can be found among people of their own age. Meanwhile, scouting has a continuing need for helpers over the whole range of activities, from those with administrative skills, activity and outdoor skills as well as orange and tea making skills.

More specific information on all these issues is available in the Parents Section to the left.
