Programme and Awards
Programme
The philosophy underpinning the programme is that every Beaver Scout should participate in a Balanced Programme over a period of time. The emphasis has shifted from a badge and award driven culture to one that ensures that all young people experience an interesting and challenging programme covering a wide range of subjects. To help, the Balanced Programme is divided into a number of key areas, methods and underlying ways of working.
The key areas split the whole programme into manageable sections. Each area represents a different development objective in a young person's life. There are five such Programme areas in Beaver Scouting. They are:
- Getting to Know Other People
- Learning About Yourself
- Exploring the World Around Us
- Discovering Creativity and Practical Skills
- Discovering Beliefs and Attitudes
How do we go about it?
These are some of the ways we look at the Programme areas which all Beavers enjoy - Fun and Friendship - is the name of the game:
- Help others
- Play games
- Explore your world
- Undertake prayer and worship
- Listen to stories
- Follow themes
- Go on visits to places
- Make things
- Meet new people and make new friends
- Act, sing and make music
- Chat
- Go outdoors
Awards
The Membership and Joining-In Awards signify that you have made your promise and have participated in the programme for a period of time and these are pictured at the top of the page on the right.
The Challenges, the second set down the page, complement the balanced programme. These have been developed to extend your skills and experience. The Challenges are optional and continue throughout the Sections providing continuity from 6 to 25.
The Chief Scout's Bronze Award, the third picture, is the highest award available in the Beaver Scout Section. It is gained by completing:
- the Outdoor Challenge, plus
- the Friendship or Discovery Challenge, plus
- a personal challenge
If a Beaver Scout has not quite completed the requirements for the top award before they move on to the Cub Scout Pack, they may complete it in their early weeks in the Cub Scout Pack.
The fourth set of badges down the page are five Activity badges specially designed for the Beaver Scout section, along with the four Staged badges.
And the last picture set are three awards to be completed in association with other sections of your Groups.
- The International Award
- The Faith Award
- The Environment Award
