The weekend on May 30th to June 1st, saw the first annual Loki Network Soapbox Derby (go-kart). The event organised by county network leaders Ewan Munro and James Sheldon along with Members of the Loki Network Unit, at Barnswood Campsite on the Cheshire border.

The event attracted explorer, Network and leader Teams from Staffordshire and East Cheshire, in which teams competed in the down hill time trial event and also competed in a design/creativity and originality competition for each of their own home made karts.

The event was also accompanied with a communal campfire in which each group took the opportunity to teach the other groups that entered something new to take home. This is a tradition that all members within the scout movement have done since the very beginning and is a tradition that should not be allowed to fade.

The weekend was a huge success with certificates and awards presented on the Sunday morning to the winning teams by Kevin Downwood (DC Staffordshire Moorlands) and Nigel Cobb (ACC Explorer Scouts).

The event organisers are currently in the process or organising next years event to held on the 11th to 13th September, 2009 returning to Barnswood Scout Camp for another hugely successful and if you require any more information please do not hesitate to contact:
