Grant Applications

Applying for a Grant?

So... you’ve got a grant application form to fill in – most of them are as big as phone books and full of complicated questions!

To help you out, here are some useful phrases/sentences that may just give you the edge when applying to outside organisations for funding. These phrases are not meant to be copied as a block but are intended to get you started. Just pick and choose what you want to use...

The Scout Association is open to members from all faiths and communities and encourages them to be self-reliant, caring and responsible citizens. We work together to serve other people and to improve our communities. Our members are encouraged to be self-confident, trustworthy, have self-respect, and respect for others, show respect for the natural world, property and possessions and have an active religious faith.

Scouting makes a positive contribution to society by helping young people to develop as active members of the community:

  • who are self-reliant
  • who are caring
  • who are responsible
  • who show commitment

The Scout Association has a clear purpose: to help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as Members of their local, national and international communities.

Whilst there are other voluntary youth organisations, there are none that offer the ‘values based’ programme of the Scout Association. The Association aims to enhance the social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual development of young people through an exciting and varied programme of creative, adventurous and challenging activities suitable for all abilities.

The Scout Association is a multi-faith and multi-cultural organisation, with a strict equal opportunities policy. We value the diversity in our movement and believe in offering common ground and shared values across divided communities, and promoting full integration of those with special needs.

The Scout Association is:

  • a growing Movement
  • a youth Movement
  • a focused Movement
  • a sound Movement
  • a relevant Movement
  • a diverse Movement

Volunteers in Scouting are supported by a well established structure through individual Scout Groups, Districts and the local Scout County. We provide adults with all the necessary skills and training to enable them to support Scouting, and all new Leaders are appointed a ‘personal training advisor’ to support them through training.

Our adult training programme is linked to the Open College Network (OCN) enabling adult volunteers to obtain qualifications in youth work that are recognised nationally, when they undertake their Leader training.
